Teachers should contribute to their health care plans and pensions if they are not already. It would be a good thing to take away tenure and give them incentive pay instead. They should be paid according to the results they achieve.

Higher pay will attract better teachers, and motivate others to better educate our students (who have already fallen behind many other industrialized nations). One of the main problems with unions now, and one of the main reasons jobs either leave our state for other right to work states, or get sent overseas is because of union groups that fight for increased pay above and beyond the inflation rate. In order for big business to compete on a global scale, which is what they have to do in order to create new jobs they have to be able to sell products and services at reasonable prices.

The only way to do that is by lowering the cost of goods sold, and you can only do that by having labor cost at reasonable levels. Labor cost in the United States are far and away higher than nearly any other country in the world. As long as unions are able to man handle labor wage negotiations or threaten strikes and force companies into paying their overblown and bloated demands, the way they have been for decades, US based firms will continue to ship jobs overseas. Why wouldn't they? Pensions are not only dismantling what was once the greatest manufacturing country in the world, they are also making it close to impossible for state and federal governments to balance budgets.

Why should a teacher, a police officer, firefighter or DMV worker get paid a salary during their retirement years and have all of their benefits paid for without having to put some of their money in the pot? (at least an amount equal to what non unionized workers must pay. They make more money, and why should they be exempt from paying what is a fair share simply because they belong to a certain club?) Simply because their club has banded people together, and can demand ridiculous things or threaten productivity? This is nothing more than glorified mob rule. Not to mention in certain states people do not even have a choice in the matter. They either join a union and pay dues or they cannot work at all.

How is this democratic? I am forced to join a group and pay them money, or I cannot work, even though I may be politically or even morally or religiously opposed to what this group does with my money or who they support with it? Why shouldn't they be putting portions of their salaries into retirement accounts like private sector employees have to in order to fund their retirement? Burden ends up being lumped on the backs of the hard working Americans who saved for retirement and didn't make other people's taxes fund their retirements, how is that fair?

The teachers love to use the ploy that our kids are going to be affected by poor teaching (which has nothing to do with money only ability), how about leaving a deficit so large that they have no way to fix it and state services begin to dwindle to nothing? Then there will be no public schools to worry about because they won't be able to pay for all of the retired state workers and still be able to hire new ones to replace them. The system is not broken, but Unions have crippled and abused it beyond measure. They have the most powerful lobbyist in the country, even above big business. Unions as they currently operate are the problem, and they must be forced to change as they are not willingly going to change themselves.

It is like the old debate over term limits for Congress. Everyone knows they are needed, but good luck getting them voted in because Congress members are not going to pass a law that hurts them. They must be left no alternative. If we want more businesses to grow and return to our states, it must be made attractive and profitable for them to do so. One of the biggest ways to do this is to cut the power of the unions to make unnecessary and ridiculous demands on them. Once this is done, wages between public and private sector workers will be slowly equalized, and companies will once again have the power to compete. Do not bend to union or democratic pressure governor.

We voted you into office to restore our Republic. It is past time for hope and change, it is now time for drastic measures to save the greatest system in the world, that has been thoroughly corrupted and brought to the brink of failure by corruption and greed. Stay the course governor. In an effort to possibly reduce this tension I offer some observations, take them for what you will. I stand only for myself and my opinions expressed here are my own.

While I do not believe people should be singled out or persecuted based on their faith, I do believe an examination of the radical elements within that faith is in order. As an example, I am a Christian. As a Christian I am responsible for my own actions and should be allowed to practice my faith in peace. However, if my faith was being hijacked by a radical element, and some people claiming to represent Christianity were spouting hatred (think Westboro Baptist), I would have to stand up and denounce them openly, not defend them or their actions, and take care that other Christians were not swayed by their ideology, and also that I was not swayed myself.

That would be a cause for singling out the ones who advocated and protected them, and publicly and privately renouncing them. I would not do this and then secretly be helping or funding them just because they were my "brothers". This however does not seem to be the case with alot of Muslims. We see pictures, and statements, and video of the "extremist muslims" and then see some of the same activity or support for that activity coming from the mouths and actions of so called "normal or moderate muslims".

Either you are or you are not. You can't support them and yet claim you are distant and different from them. It doesn't work that way. We see instances of Muslim extremists saying death to all Jews and Christians, and then we see supposed moderate Muslims saying the same things. What are we supposed to think? If they are truly distorting your faith then do something besides agree with them. As further example, we look at the treatment of Muslims here in America, where they are free to do as they wish, go to school, own businesses, practice their faith, ect, (often special treatment is given during certain times when Muslims are allowed to block streets and impeded traffic for their prayers without fear of reprisals or fines) yet we see Christians persecuted and murdered without reason or trial in Muslim dominated countries.

We can't even send news crews there, or Christian missionaries, without them being beaten, harrassed or killed, yet Muslims are free to practice and convert non Muslims as they wish. We do not see supposed moderate Muslims coming to the murdered Christians aid against their extremist brothers, we often see aiding them, covering up for them, or complete indifference, if they are not openly in the streets dancing and singing "Death to America" while they celebrate.

Just as all Christians do not agree with or aid their more extreme brethren, we realize that all Muslims may not either, but so far it is their actions that speak the loudest. The truth right now is that the Muslim Community as a whole "is" a target for radicalization, and extremist Muslims do recruit a vast majority from their own faith radical or otherwise. Until we see a large movement of the non-extremist "peaceful" Muslims stand up openly against this supposed minority of the extremists, then most people will indeed lump you all together. You need to be the ones to set yourselves apart from them by deed and word, as true Christians do from our more radical elements.

The ball is in your court. We have yet to see you do anything with it but pass it back to the extremists through direct word or deed, or by refusal to stand united against them. The fact is that radical Muslims do indeed plant subversive elements into our society. They do place radicalized cells with the sole intent of causing disruption, chaos or outright harm. We cannot tell you apart because you all say the same thing "outwardly", so for the time being, we are intolerant of you all by necessity of survival and common sense.

Show us you are different. Show us you do not stand with them, and then we will stand with you against them. Americans are just that way. We will go out of our way to help people be free even if some of them have proven themselves to be our enemies. Right now we mistrust Muslims, and with good reason. Give us a reason not to.
Derius Thoranhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08222228057642865021noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2920981854611094305.post-7527110284278848582011-02-08T02:00:00.001-05:002011-02-08T02:01:49.137-05:00Thought's on Freedom
I believe in our individual rights. I believe the spirit and letter of the law was designed and intended to offer maximum freedom with limited government intrusion. I believe I should have the right to protect myself and my loved ones from danger by any means necessary to end said danger. That said, I also believe that a person also has the right to exercise that same individual freedom by choosing not to protect themselves, and rely upon some other person’s sense of goodwill, honor or duty.

It is alarming how those that choose and are allowed to fully exercise their aforementioned freedoms, are trying to make it their business to deny me the right to exercise my own.

Lastly, freedom is not now, nor has it ever been free. When a majority of the people no longer feel the need or the desire to protect our freedoms, and they impose their will upon the rest of us, freedom swiftly begins to erode, and once lost, is nearly impossible to regain.

We need to stand for freedom, or we will die in the chains of slavery.
Derius Thoranhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08222228057642865021noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2920981854611094305.post-41164122134920696752010-12-24T03:12:00.005-05:002011-02-17T03:39:07.521-05:00Musings on Christmas EveAs I sit here getting my children's gifts wrapped, charged, updated, wifi'd, and ready for the Big Reveal, I find myself thinking a lot about Christmas. It would require U.S. presidential candidates who want to appear on the ballot in Arizona to submit documents proving they meet the constitutional requirements to be president.

Supporters say the bill would help settle a controversy over whether Obama was born in the United States. Opponents say it's a waste of time that makes Arizona mocked by the rest of the country. Obama has released his Hawaii birth certificate proving he's a "natural-born citizen" qualified to be president.

HERE for full story.

I’m really not too sure what to think of this. Seems too little too late really. Even if it were true that he was ineligible, does anyone think for even one second that the Democratic Party would allow that information to come out? It would completely destroy the Party, and nullify every law or action he has taken as POTUS; as well as destroy the careers of anyone involved in the cover-up.

No, I think even if true, they would simply supply proper documents by whatever means necessary. They hold us all in complete contempt, and see themselves as our betters. They have lost all fear of the People, because they know that the People will do nothing but roll over, as they have continued to do regardless of the atrocities forced upon us .

But maybe, just maybe Arizona has it right. Maybe there are people in America with backbone, and maybe when we start to stand united and say NO MORE this present trampling of our Constitution will finally come to an end.

Let’s hope so. Nurses at Leicester General Hospital left her in sheets covered with faeces and doctors failed to tackle her refusal to eat as she rapidly lost weight, it was claimed. Her daughters told an inquest that they were forced to 'fight the system' in an attempt to save their mother, but in the end she simply lost the will to live.

Mrs Kennedy, a a retired hosiery worker from Groby, Leicestershire, had a stroke in January last year but remained lucid and independent, the Leicester hearing was told. She was admitted to hospital in March with mild pneumonia and dehydration, and from then on her physical and mental health deteriorated, her family said. Her daughters said they were 'fobbed off' by staff and considered to be a nuisance.

Jenny Kennedy, 53, a solicitor from London, said nurses made it clear that the four sisters were not welcome outside strict visiting hours, despite the family driving hundreds of miles to visit regularly. She described how nurses left her mother lying facing a blank wall in a single room after taking away her television without warning. Mrs Kennedy's fingernails were often caked with feces, she added. The widow turned down the hospital food, possibly due to mental health problems, but was not given a psychiatric assessment.

Miss Kennedy said: 'They had just given her up. She was a nuisance.' The sisters wanted to get their mother out of the hospital, and tried to see a consultant, but an appointment was canceled at the last minute.

Rene Kennedy, 57, told the court: 'I never knew we would have to fight the system to get our mother the essential dignity she was entitled to when she had worked her whole life. 'I believe she ceased to want to exist. I wouldn't have wanted to exist either in the environment where she was.'

The ward sister responsible for Mrs Kennedy admitted 'appalling' standards of care, including leaving Mrs Kennedy in bed for a month. Emma Johns told the inquest: 'There is no excuse for it. At the time we were short-staffed. I was probably spreading myself far too thinly.' Junior doctor Jonathan McClure admitted that he decided not to see his 'very poorly' patient over a busy May bank holiday weekend, despite being told by senior doctors to monitor her potassium levels.

These were dangerously low when the pensioner suffered a cardiac arrest and died days later on May 5. Dr McClure said: 'During bank holiday weekends many patients won't see a doctor. I wish I had seen Mrs Kennedy but I didn't.' Returning an open verdict, coroner Catherine Mason said: 'I can't say [the treatment] directly caused or contributed to her death but it most certainly did cause distress to Mrs Kennedy and her family. It left her in a position where her rights to dignity were removed.'

A spokesman from the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust apologised, saying: 'We have put a plan into action to prevent these issues from happening again.' It is too open ended, and people tend to get all inflamed and cranky. However, some current things cropping up are just aggravating me to no end. One of the issues that is currently getting my boxers in a knot is Race.

Now granted, the race of the candidate may be important to a few unenlightened groups or individuals who collectively exhibit the IQ of a piece of bread, but for most rational adults, I don't think it really matters that much. The fact that the media and other groups continue to assume that race is an issue, and continue to bring it to the forefront, is whats really to blame. I think if people would shut the hell up about the race issue, that it would quietly go away.

But we can't have that now can we? Oh Dear God No! I mean, if race were no longer an issue, then so many groups and people who make their MONEY from racial issues would be out of a JOB! How horrifying! (and you can draw your own conclusions as to which groups and individuals profit the most from racial issues)

I mean, if race were no longer an issue, these people might, GASP, have to get real jobs and earn their money! They might even lose their media spotlight, which could diminish their own political aspirations! And that will just not do! Theres PROFIT in racism, and as long as theres money to be made, theres people who will exploit race (in the interest of peace don't you know) in order to reap those profits.

Now of course there are groups and individuals to whom race does matter, but are they really worth mentioning?

What if the race of a candidate had NOTHING to do with it? What if it was instead that they are a confirmed liar, or a hypocrite on so many things that have come out of their mouths? Do some research into all 3 viable candidates. Look at speeches they have made, and things they have said, and the way they have voted on issues over the years.

Do a little research and see where they have outright lied about things. The lists of outright falsehoods available with just a tiny bit of research are staggering. If you honestly do a little work, you can see who is the most deceitful candidate. Who is the one who tells the most outright lies, or has the most things to hide? Who is the most hypocritical? Who has flip-flopped more than a trained seal? Who promises things that it is IMPOSSIBLE for a POTUS, according to the CONSTITUTION to even accomplish? How many have read the Constitution and actually know what it is a POTUS can and cannot do?

I know its a stretch to think anyone will actually do any in-depth research on their own, rather than being spoon-fed their ideas by THE MEDIA and its IDIOT BOX. People for the most part, are lazy, and prefer to be led around by the nose it seems. It takes all the pressure off. Its so much easier than voting based on your OWN research, then having to own up to your mistake if the person you voted for ends up being a turd. Sooo much easier to get your voting ideas from somewhere else, and blame them for lying to you if your candidate turns out not so great.

If more people would actually take the time to do some simple research, we would actually have informed voters, who would vote based on real issues, not on some fairy-tale about what President X is going to do for you, told to you by your Idiot Box.

There are links to the Constitution, and other Historical US documents on the right. You can read through them and they will tell you what a President's Powers are. Anything else they promise you is just like putting lipstick on a pig.....

Thats All For Now.....

DeriusDerius Thoranhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08222228057642865021noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2920981854611094305.post-32704625050190214472008-05-10T08:19:00.002-04:002008-05-10T08:35:03.402-04:00A New ToyI just got my new toy last night. Really?Wow. I'm stunned. It appears that real people, besides me, are actually reading this cra......er....uhmm...these thoughtful musings of mine! HA! Ahem.....

On a side note, a really interesting thing happened to me today. I normally carry in a custom leather IWB holster. Today, I was slumming it a bit, and decided it would be okay if I popped down to the store wearing sweats. I had recently gotten a light weight nylon type IWB holster, the kind with a reversible metal clip that goes over your belt. (so us southpaws can use it)

So I hitched up the sweat pants, tied them securely, and adjusted the new rig. It was lighter than my old holster, and was quite comfortable. I wiggled around at every angle, crouched, stood up fast, bent over, and even jumped up and down a bit to make sure things were going to stay in place, and out I went. (I am glad no one saw me doing all that....woulda thought I needed my meds)

Anyway, I get to the store. I was going to just get some tea, but as it so happened lots of things started to look very good, and wanted me to buy them. So there I was.....armload of goodies standing at the counter, when all the sudden I feel the rig let loose from my waist and fall quickly down the inside of my pant leg! Fell all the way down and stopped with the muzzle resting on the top of my boot! THE HORROR! (my wife claims the horror I felt was from the fact that I was wearing sweats and boots in public, but I assure you it wasn't!)

So what to do? Line of people behind me, and the clerk looking at me funny. My mind went blank. (stupid brain) In a flash of panic, I threw all the stuff on the counter none too gently, and quickly knelt down to 'tie my shoe'. Realizing that I had my boots on, I shoved the end of the rig back up into my sweats a bit, and jammed the whole pant leg, rig, and all down into my boot. It did NOT fit. I jammed it in as best I could, stood slowly and grinned sheepishly at the rather annoyed clerk, and quickly paid for my stuff and limped the hell outta there!

I could feel the people staring at me! I got to the truck and got the rig fished out, stuck it back in my waistband, and hauled outta there.

When I got home, I set the rig on my computer desk, and busted out laughing as I realized I had left my goodies at the store! What a day!

Don't laugh! And I'm never wearing sweat pants again.....

DeriusDerius Thoranhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08222228057642865021noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2920981854611094305.post-13095018181884589032008-05-08T10:01:00.007-04:002008-05-08T10:21:50.716-04:00Too Old To Play Games?Anyone who knows me well knows that I am a huge fan of Robert E. Weird that they were sick, but not nearly so bad as it got into me. Ah well.....

While browsing the 'net, I did run across a site that had some quotes by historical figures in regards to some 2nd amendment issues. Check it out HERE.

See you soon.

Derius

Also, see this quote from the NRA-ILA Website:

"On April 30, the U.S. Department of Interior, through the National Park Service and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, issued a proposed rule to amend the current strict regulations on firearms in national parks and wildlife refuges. NRA-ILA led the effort to amend the existing policy regarding the carrying and transportation of firearms on these federal lands. The public has until June 30 to comment on the proposal, and NRA-ILA strongly urges members to file comments in support."

Go HERE, read the rest, and let them hear your voice and know how you stand on the issue.
Derius Thoranhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08222228057642865021noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2920981854611094305.post-71370447480736997402008-05-03T12:03:00.004-04:002008-05-03T12:36:00.633-04:00Internet Skill +1Well, I've done it. What a pain. Why can't they just make a one button clicky type thing for those of us over the age of 15? Grrr. My kids can really whoop this stuff that often leaves me shakin' my head in awe and wonder.

Okay, maybe not awe and wonder. Maybe its delirium brought on by lack of sleep and too much tea. Either way, It still makes you feel funny. Hrrmm, lessee, what else.....Oh! I remember! My kids have begged and cried until I decided to play Rock Band with them. As a musician all my life, I balked at first, but let me tell you, this game is downright FUN! There I said it! FUN!

It has a semi realistic set of virtual drums, that approximates a real drum set, complete with foot pedal and wooden drum sticks. Sadly, no cymbals though. Anyway, add to this a pretty decently built plastic copy of a Fender Stratocaster complete with whammy bar, and a microphone, and you've got yourself many hours of hard rocking joy! I firmly suggest that you try it at least once, young or old.

It also has a pretty good song list, with a lot more downloadable from XBOX Live. Songs range from really good old 60's, 70's, & 80's Classic Rock, to 90's and later craptastic stuff that the kids have been told is really music today. Oh well, the kids are at me, and Mississippi Queen by Mountain is playing, so I'm off. Never thought a game could help you bond with the kids, but its getting them interested in music like I never could.

Oh, be sure to check out Barry's Teas for some Irish Goodness. Later Y'all.

Derius

Derius Thoranhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08222228057642865021noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2920981854611094305.post-64198280537445339172008-05-02T23:32:00.012-04:002008-05-03T00:17:24.248-04:00A New BeginningHello, my name is Derius. I have recently decided to try my hand at this blogging thing. I've seen some good ones, and I've seen some really bad ones, so I figure if I can fall somewhere in the middle I'll be doing OK.

I originally wanted to create a blog to try to reach folks who are handicapped, disabled, or otherwise impaired, and who may not be able to train using traditional methods, but who are still interested in firearms for either self defense, hunting, or sport.

Having certain physical limitations myself, I have had to learn to train differently so that these potential negatives were turned into positives. I intended to share my insight, knowledge, and training with others. (What little there is!)

That being said, I still intend to do just that. However, I was given some advice by someone whom I admire, and have a lot of respect for. Those of you who frequent The Firing Line, The High Road, or various other forums, may know him. His name is LawDog. (As soon as I figure out how to create links to these forums and to other blogs, I will post them.) In the time being, any search engine will point you in the right direction, so go check them out.

He advised me to not limit myself to any one subject, and to blog on whatever happens to be in my head. (Which after some thought, may not necessarily be a good thing!) But I am going to go with the flow and see what happens.

In closing, those of you who are sticklers for proper grammar, spelling, punctuation, and the like will probably get bent severely out of shape, for I am no word-smith. I will do the best I can to make things legible, but I have been known to confound and confuse the best professors and spell-checkers alike.

I always try to be civil, and keep the cursing to a minimum, because I believe a man should be able to properly convey any emotion he feels without being vulgar, but there may be some subject matter or language that certain folks with delicate sensibilities may find inappropriate from time to time so be forewarned.

Thanks for coming, and please feel free to comment and let me know if you like the place, or if you have any suggestions for making things better. I'm off for bed.....

DeriusDerius Thoranhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08222228057642865021noreply@blogger.com2
